Family-focused Aussie adventure encourages teamwork.
“A Sloth Story” is the latest installment in the Sanctuary City franchise created by Australian animators Tania Vincent and Ricard Cussó. This kid-friendly adventure follows 12-year-old sloth Laura (voiced by Teo Vergara) as her Spanish-speaking family immigrates to Sanctuary City after a natural disaster destroys its beloved home and restaurant. There’s a bit of peril — including the storm that ravages the family’s village and a climactic scene in which the family must confront a villain and her hench-animals — but nothing too intense. A certain food transforms a group of animals into agitated, over-caffeinated, zombielike creatures, and mild language includes “damn,” “nerd,” “stupid,” “stinks” and “poop.” Laura’s married parents dance together and hold paws. The movie encourages honesty, compassion, teamwork and perseverance. (84 minutes)
