June 28, 2023
The long awaited adaption of Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s YA novel, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe hits theaters this September. Today, Bluefox Entertainment shared an emotional two minute trailer for the upcoming coming-of-age film.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe takes place in 1987 El Paso, Texas and centers around the friendship between two teenage Mexican-American loners, Dante Quintana (played by Reese Gonzales) and Aristotle Mendoza (played by Max Pelayo) who explore a new, unusual friendship and the difficult road to self-discovery.
The trailer opens with Aristotle (Ari) walking down a dirt road, narrating his worries: “One summer night, I fell asleep. Afraid that nothing in my family would ever change and that I’ll feel alone forever.” In comes Dante, a bubbly, affectionate character that Ari finds himself intrigued by. The trailer spends the next 30 seconds or so detailing just how much the two change each others lives over the course of the summer. Then, Dante discloses he and his family are leaving for a year to head to Chicago. The two write each other letters, and Dante admits in one of his letters he misses El Paso and thinks about it all the time.
