Blue Fox Entertainment and Blue Fox Canada have picked up North American digital and theatrical rights for comedy “Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Story.”

Featuring Mike Smith as Bubbles, Robb Wells as Ricky, John Paul Tremblay as Julian, and Patrick Roach as Randy, the movie is a spinoff of the popular long-running Canadian show “Trailer Park Boys,” which has 12 seasons available for streaming on Netflix. Blue Fox plans to release the movie nationwide in cinemas, though dates have yet to be announced.

The film also features special appearances by “Bad Santa” actor Billy Bob Thornton, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, “Sherlock” co-star Martin Freeman, and “The Umbrella Academy” alum Robert Sheehan.

“Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Story” was written by Smith and directed by Charlie Lightening, also known for “Liam Gallagher: As It Was.” Producers include Smith, Wells, Tremblay, Lewin Webb, Jamie Brown, and Gary Howsam. The film was made under a Canada-U.K. co-production treaty.

The movie follows Bubbles and his band, The Shitrockers, as they embark on a European rock tour and earn a spot opening for Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters. However, after traveling from Nova Scotia to Prague, they are kicked off the tour and must resort to busking to survive and find a way back home. Ricky and Julian must figure out how to make their dreams come true again — if that’s still possible.

Smith actually fronts the band Bubbles and the Shitrockers, which will be releasing a 14-track album on Spotify and Apple Music, along with a genuine tour across the U.S. and Europe, which includes performances with Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters.

The acquisition was negotiated by Ian Goggins, Dave Hudakoc, and Lisa Gutberlet on behalf of Blue Fox Entertainment and Blue Fox Entertainment Canada, with Gary Howsam negotiating on behalf of the filmmakers.
